Do you remember those days 10 years ago when we had to access the internet over a dial-up connection that took what seemed like forever to connect? Internet connection typesMost people thought you were posh if you had access to the internet in your home. However, now-a-days we can't be without the internet. We are constantly checking our Facebook and other social media accounts, so much so that we need to have access to the internet 24/7. Broadband has been the answer to this problem and looks set to take the world by storm. However, it may not be suitable and accessible for everyone. Here we discuss the five main types of broadband.

Fibre Optic

Currently only the most densely populated areas have access to fibre optic broadband. This connection delivers speeds of up to 40Mbps, however in the future it is likely to exceed 80Mbps. It is the fastest broadband connection available.

DSL

To receive this connection you will need an internet connection in your home. The main benefits of a DSL connection are its security and easiness to use. Currently, it is the most widespread internet connection and is very reliable. DSL is obtainable countrywide from most broadband providers. Typically DSL is slower than a fibre optic link, other than that the variances remain negligible. To access this connection you will not require any additional hardware.

Ethernet Leased Line

A leased line is ideal for anyone who wants to share files over a secure remote connection. This is a perfect connection for anyone who wants a completely private circuit and doesn't want anyone else to join it.

Cable Internet

This connection is linked through your TV set and is always available. It is a great choice for anyone looking for a secure internet connection and is available nationwide, irrespective of area.

Wireless Broadband

This connection is very similar to the other forms stated above. It is a great broadband connection. Over a wireless link devices such as PCs can access the internet.
