Getting fit should be one of our top priorities. We often make goals to improve our fitness but always fall short because of one reason or another. Don't worry, you're not alone, most of us fail with our fitness goals because we think we have to make drastic changes in order to be successful. We must remember that we don't necessarily have to undergo athletic training to get in shape. Here are some ways to get fit with simple changes:

Use your body

Your body is the best tool you can use for your workouts. Your body weight can be used as resistance for simple exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, squats, and dips. Do two to three sets of 10 to 15 reps for each move. If you want a more intense workout, take shorter rests between sets.

For a good cardio workout, run or walk up four flights of stairs about five times. Walk back down slowly to reduce impact on your knees.

Invest in fitness tools

You can work out easily at home with items like dumbbells, kettle balls, jump rope, and some instructional DVDs. However, one of the best workout tools you can buy is a set of resistance bands. These are very effective tools for muscle resistance and are very convenient as well.

Take mini breaks

Sitting in front of your desk all day can take its toll on your health. It can lead to obesity, diabetes, heart problems, and even early death. Set an alarm to remind you to get up and move a few minutes every hour. Walk around, stretch, or do some exercises. These activities will give you more energy and keep you productive throughout the day.

Take your meetings outside

You don't have to set your meetings inside the office every time. You can take your team for a walk around the block to brainstorm your next brilliant idea. Taking your meetings outside can help burn calories, give you more energy, improve your mood, and give you a different perspective when tackling a problem.

Communicate in person

If you need to talk to a co-worker across the hall, get up and walk up to them. Sure you can exchange emails, texts, or instant messages, but nothing beats making face time. Not only will it help you be more active, it can also help you avoid misunderstandings.

Find ways to move

Be aware of your opportunities for purposeful movement. You can exercise throughout the day using different situations like parking you car a few blocks away from your office, taking the stairs to get to your floor, or walking to your favorite restaurant for lunch. You can also walk or ride your bike on your way to work or school. Household chores like cleaning and gardening are also great ways to burn some calories.
